Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival to Ballynahinch

You will be transferred by us from either Galway, Westport or Knock Airport to your accommodation at Ballynahinch Castle for the first night of your tour. Set in a private 450-acre estate of woodland, rivers and walks this elegant, unpretentious four star castle hotel stands proud, as the castle has done for centuries past. Nestled in the heart of wildest Connemara it is a haven of fine dining, undiluted peace and utter luxury. Ballynahinch will make a perfect backdrop to your romantic escape. Conor or Gabriel will meet you either on the evening of arrival or the following morning (depending on your arrival time) to go through your itinerary and answer any questions you have about your self-guided bike trip in the west of Ireland. All bikes and equipment will be delivered to your hotel and we will make sure that everything fits you perfectly.

Day 2

Ballynahinch to Renvyle

The second day of your tour will bring you via the Sky Road from Clifden to the Renvyle Peninsula where you will spend your second night in the Renvyle House Hotel. The Sky Road will be one of the highlights of your day, offering panoramic sea views across the Atlantic with dropping rugged coastlines beneath you. Further along, you will be passing by the Connemara National Park in the village of Letterfrack. If you have time it is well worth exploring this vast area of preserved landscape via the excellent trail walks and the informative visitor centre. Letterfrack is also the gateway to the Renvyle Peninsula, your destination for today. The Renvyle peninsula, reaches out into the Atlantic Ocean and is peppered with archaeological sites, historical ruins and white-sand beaches. Your arrival at the historic Renvyle House Hotel, along a sweeping driveway, brings you to the edge of the Atlantic Ocean once more. Located on 150 acres, which include a private lake, a beach, woodlands and gardens, you will dine here tonight in its romantic setting.

Day 3

Renvyle to Delphi

Making your way from the Renvyle peninsula you will pass through the pretty village of Tullycross with its traditional thatched cottages. As you leave the Renvyle Peninsula on your Connemara cycle you will experience the full majesty of the Twelve Bens mountain range, passing beneath their brooding peaks as you cycle towards the small, remote village of Leenane. On your way there, a stop at Kylemore Abbey is a must. This gothic-style castle was built in 1867 and boasts an award-winning six-acre Victorian walled garden created by Mitchell Henry in tandem with the building of Kylemore Abbey. After a time Killary Fjord, reputed to be Ireland's only fjord, and certainly its most dramatic, will appear beside you as you turn a corner. You will follow the fjord close by the water's edge to bring you into the Delphi Valley. Completely surrounded by mountains you will feel cocooned in luxury during your stay at the Delphi Resort. On arrival you will be treated to an organic seaweed bath in the spa and you can dine together in the most romantic of restaurants overlooking the mountains.

Day 4

Delphi to Westport

Leaving the Delphi Valley you will wind your way alongside Doolough (the dark, deep lake) past rugged, unpopulated landscapes to bring you to the coastal town of Louisburgh. There you might choose to pause and absorb the rhythms of a typical west of Ireland town as it goes about life at a gentle pace. The road then continues along the shores of Clew Bay past dramatic historical sites including the fourteenth century Murrisk Abbey and the holy mountain of Croagh Patrick. Your final destination is the eighteenth century heritage town of Westport. You will stay at the Westport Plaza hotel where every aspect of comfort, opulence and four-star service is taken care of. Enjoy both its quality of hospitality and its convenient location to all this vibrant town has to offer. The Gold Experience at the Plaza includes an hour in their soothing thermal suite allowing you to relax together and recount the highlights of your trip.

Testimonials

Myself and  Richard just wanted to write and say thank you for making our honeymoon so memorable. The champagne on our first night was a lovely surprise and the weather was amazing! It was really lovely exploring Connemara on the bikes and then getting to relax in some of the beautiful accommodation you had organised. We will be back in the future to celebrate an anniversary or two!
