Luxury 3 Peaks Ascent Walking Tour

Prices from

  • Reaching each of the peaks included in this Connemara hiking tour is a highlight in itself. That feeling of achievement and of having your efforts rewarded by the views which appear at the summit is worth every step!
  • The fascinating insight you will gain into walking in Ireland as well as the history, people, geography, flora and fauna of the area, from your knowledgeable guide, is what makes your tour complete.
  • Entering the elements. Connemara is a place of four seasons in one day, no matter the season. This may be challenging but it is also exciting and invigorating.
  • The contrast between challenging yourself mentally and physically during the walks and then returning to the absolute comfort and pampering provided by your accommodation each evening is wonderful.

Please note: moderate fitness and appropriate walking gear are needed. Alternative routes will be arranged by your experienced guide should adverse weather conditions occur.

Conor’s favourite view: It has to be the view from Mweelrea (Day 3) along the Atlantic coastline and the off-shore islands on a clear day. To sit looking at that view while enjoying a sandwich and a hot cup of tea is to know total happiness!

You will be transferred from either Galway, Westport or Knock Airport to your accommodation at the Westport Plaza Hotel in the eighteenth century heritage town of Westport. A modern hotel where every aspect of comfort, opulence and four-star service is taken care of. Enjoy both its quality of hospitality and its convenient location to all this vibrant town has to offer.  Conor or Gabriel will meet you either on the evening of arrival or the following morning (depending on your arrival time) to go through your itinerary and answer any questions you have about your tour.

Day 2

Croagh Patrick (764m)

Today you will be taking on Ireland's 'Holy Mountain' Croagh Patrick with your guide, following in the footsteps of thousands of pilgrims who climb what is known locally as 'The Reek'. The well-worn path consists of broken rock and sand and requires all your concentration. Reaching the summit, you cannot help but be surprised by the tiny chapel and the spectacular views stretching endlessly in every direction. You guide will tell you of the fascinating and ancient history of the mountain and you can refuel with snacks before making your first descent! Following your first day's excursion you will be transferred to your accommodation at the Delphi Resort. Quiet colours, natural materials and a tranquil atmosphere will greet you at this sensitively designed four-star resort deep in the mountains of Connemara. While there you can a visit to their award-winning spa or simply rest your tired legs in a comfortable armchair with a good book.

Day 3

Mweelrea (814m )/Leenane Horseshoe 760m

Today you will be collected by your guide and brought to the start of your biggest challenge of the tour – Mweelrea - the highest mountain in the west of Ireland. At 814m, it is guarded on all sides by craggy slopes giving the impression that it is unconquerable. It is flanked on one side by Killary Harbour, Ireland's only true fjord and on the other side by Doolough Pass, a glaciated valley. There are no easy ascents of this mighty mountain and your guide will show you how to approach with caution. The reward of panoramic views of the mountains, coast and off-shore islands at the summit is worth every step. Please note that this climb is weather-dependent and can become treacherous in bad conditions.  Should these conditions occur your guide will choose an alternative route in the valley for you to explore today. Once again you will have the pleasure of staying at the Delphi Resort where every comfort will be provided for you after conquering your second peak!

Day 4

Ben Baun ‘The white peak’ (729m)

Today you set out with your guide to conquer your third and final peak. Ben Baun, meaning 'the White Peak', is known as the ‘Mont Blanc of Connemara’, and is the highest peak in the Twelve Bens mountain range. A small range, in the classic west of Ireland style, the Twelve Bens offers excellent hiking over rocky scree and boulders, with endless views in all directions. With five valleys cut deep into its sides, there is nothing to get in the way of your views from Ben Baun. You can truly appreciate the indented, irregularly shaped Connemara coastline, not to mention the innumerable lakes and bog pools that decorate the mountains.  Today's walk will see you reach your goal of three peaks climbed and conquered! Afterwards you will be brought to your accommodation at nearby Lough Inagh Lodge, where you can enjoy a well-deserved pint of Guinness to celebrate your achievement. The Lodge is offers you all the comforts and pleasures of an elegant, modern hotel in an old-world atmosphere.

Day 5

Today you will be transferred back to Galway, Westport or Knock Airport to begin your onward journey.
